What is Ghost, and why use it?

It combines writing, email newsletters and paid memberships in one place — no ads, no algorithm deciding who sees your work. We host and maintain it for you, so you skip the servers, updates and backups.

Is there really no credit card for the trial?

None. The 14-day free trial gives you a fully working Ghost site at your-name.abstract27.com. Add a plan whenever you're ready; if you don't, the site pauses on day 17 and we email you a full export before anything is deleted.

Do I need to be technical?

Accepted Answer

No. Pick a name and your site is live in about a minute. Ghost's editor is as simple as writing an email, and we handle the servers, SSL certificates, updates and backups in the background.

How long until my site is online?

Accepted Answer

About 60 seconds. We provision your Ghost site and a secure HTTPS address automatically, then Ghost's own setup wizard helps you choose a theme and publish your first post.

Can I use my own domain?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can point a domain you already own to your site, and from the Pro plan up, one domain registration per year is included — we register and renew it for you, and you can transfer it out at any time.

Can I move my existing blog or newsletter over?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We migrate your content from Substack, WordPress, Medium or another Ghost site by hand on request during onboarding. Self-serve importers are on the roadmap.

Can I send newsletters to my members?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every site comes with newsletter sending wired up through Mailgun, so you can email your subscribers from day one. Your monthly email allowance depends on your plan.

Can I charge for paid subscriptions?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Ghost has built-in memberships and paid subscriptions. Connect your own Stripe account and you keep all of your subscription revenue minus Stripe's fees — we don't take a cut of your sales.

Do I own my content and data?

Completely. It's your Ghost site, your content and your member list. You can export everything — posts, members and images — at any time in standard formats. No lock-in.

Where is my site hosted?

Accepted Answer

On dedicated servers in the EU (Hetzner, Germany), with daily encrypted backups to Vultr in Amsterdam. Your readers' data stays in the EU, which makes GDPR compliance much simpler.

What if I want to leave?

Cancel any time from your dashboard — no phone calls, no retention scripts. Export your full site first, and we'll never hold your content hostage.

Who do I talk to if I need help?

A real person. Abstract27 is run by an independent operator in London, so support comes from someone who actually knows your setup — not a ticket queue. Studio plans get priority response.
